There are collaborations, and there’s Gucci x Adidas.
Alas, the two asteroids have finally collided. Adidas and Gucci have been on a collision course for years, narrowly avoiding each other. The two monolith brands finally collided at Gucci’s Fall 2022 show during Milan Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2022/23. Fashionistas and pop-culture enthusiasts were sent into a frenzy as A$AP Rocky and Rihanna were pictured at the front row of the fall 2022 show.
While many worldwide have celebrated the couple’s pending family member, the spotlight fell on a different couple in Milan. Fashion icons and artists gathered at the archetypal house of Gucci, witnessing the ultimate cross over of street style and high fashion. The iconic Gucci font found its way alongside the Adidas flower, creating pieces filled with monogram envy, bright silhouettes and Euro pieces.
Gucci’s creative director, Alessandro Michele, delved into the ‘hack lab’ producing sportswear resting on the theme of legacy and retro style. The result created bright colourways putting on display the strongest elements of both brands. The famous three stripes were seen racing down a double-breasted ‘crayon blue’ blazer, while Gucci’s symbolic monogram etched the pairing’s collaboration in stone.
Following last year’s invasion of Balenciaga, Gucci once again found a way to extend the fashion house’s newfound passion of crossing over into street-style territory while still maintaining their luxury identity.
