You had to be quick, like zero to one hundred real quick.

Pardon us, but Drake can only be renowned as a matured wine – he gets better with age. Whilst he’s no foreigner in the sphere of Fashion Drops, he still manages to summon a surprise. Released December 19th, Drake’s new sub-label NOCTA x Nike comprises key pieces featuring the distinct swoosh. From exemplary puffer jackets, superior hoodies and the finest fleece pants on the market, NOCTA will become a staple with street style nomads set to feature two colourway’s for maximum appeal. The collection sold out minutes after going live.

The street style x sporty king presents a multitude of collaborations throughout his faceted career. Drizzy’s portfolio consists of a Prada collection in 2017 for ‘Boy Meets World’ tour, OVO x Dsquared2 ready to wear street style line, and Drake x Louis Vuitton SS 18 custom soundtrack inspired by then Artistic Director, Kim Jones. Luxury Fashion houses comprise valued reputations of high-end style eluding the finesse of the clients, but when collaborating with Drake, there is an exemption of course. His collaborations challenge traditions by touching on his signature ‘sporty x street style’ finesse throughout the fashion domain, admittedly influencing the way we all view luxury fashion.

More memorably would be his signed contract with Jordan Brand in 2013, providing design input for the classic Air Jordan 10’s and Air Jordan 12’s inclusive of his OVO logo. A successful release both years promised a valued position in Nike’s legendary portfolio, which would go on to see Drake spotted in swoosh designs throughout the years – confirmed in his latest music video ‘Laugh Now Cry Later.’ This relationship adorns both parties’ visionaries which can be rare, suggesting an expansion of creative designs to be expected throughout the years ahead. And word on the street proposes a collaboration of OVO x Air Force 1’s set to release in 2021 – our lips are sealed.

Drake x Nike NOCTA - YouTube

NOCTA is a ‘collection for the collective,’ insinuating the ballers, grinders and creatives of nocturnal nature reign inspiration for the labels design brief, focusing on luxe adaptable pieces entailing durability for the daring. The collection surprisingly doesn’t tailor to L.A street-style alone, rather the inclusivity of Drake’s creative ambitions stems from his time in global fashion capitals; Toronto, London and Paris who constitute fashion design by uniform, adding “a real team feel” which is carried throughout the label’s pieces.

“NOCTA is about creating something for people on the move. People who want functional, comfortable fits that are adaptable from one environment to the next. But as much as it’s about what we make, it’s also about a mindset: an unforgiving drive, a relentlessness. Characterized by the type who are on the road all day, all night — the grinders, the hard workers — trying to accomplish their goals and taking no short cuts.”

The premium designs will be available in two differing colourways: Black and Gold. The tonal pallet although minimal, adds an expensive charm which is likely to appeal across interchangeable consumers. Whilst the collection might not favour our current summer climate, it still alludes to our vast seasonal blunders, reinforcing why the latest pieces must be in our wardrobes pronto.

“This opportunity is something that I’ve been waiting on for a really long time. To be associated with the highest level possible — that was always my goal. We put in a lot of hard work, a lot of man and woman hours, during the last two years. To see it all coming to fruition starts an exciting new chapter in my life.”

NOCTA’s loudest piece showcases a seasonal staple, the puffer jacket. Set in both tonal pallets with reflective piping details and embroidery of NOCTA x swoosh logos positioned front and back, it features as the forefront of the campaign, striking a high demand of dominance in the Northern Hemisphere.
