Should You Buy The New iPhone 12?

Apple has unveiled the design for the new iPhone 12 – the latest update from the iPhone X released back in 2017. Smartphone users are probably now thinking, is it worth keeping my current model or getting an upgrade?

There’s no doubt, the hype for the new iPhone is reached unprecedented levels of anticipation. A pandemic-riddled 2020 delayed the new launch of the iPhone 12— spreading more speculation and rumours surrounding the smartphone’s capabilities. Delays for the iPhone 12 largely circled around Apple’s production processes and quite possibly distribution. The masses were expecting the new iPhone to drop during Apple’s ‘Time Flies’ event held in September. To the disappointment of many, there was no iPhone keynote presentation. Wonder no more, for the time has come.

We can safely say the new iPhone 12 has been a promising but steady addition to the fleet of existing iPhones. It would seem the new iPhone 12 has gone back a few steps in regards to its design. The new models tend to look like an older iPhone model, pre the iPhone X and 11. While there are features to pleased about, the new 12 isn’t exactly jaw dropping.

We’re here to make this decision a bit easier. Here’s our breakdown of the iPhone 12.

There’s variety

Australians will have four options to choose from: iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone Pro Max.

The iPhone 12 mini has 5.4 inch display and is priced from $1,199, whilst the iPhone 12 has 6.1 inch display from $1,349. The iPhone 12 Pro begins at $1,699 at 6.1 inches and the iPhone 12 Pro Max is 6.7 inches with prices starting at $1,849.

As for the finish, the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 are available in white, black, blue, green and red.

The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max can be bought in either graphite, silver, gold or pacific blue colours.

Supersonic service

All these new models will offer 5G coverage – a first of its kind. This means faster service, but it won’t be draining any additional power or battery life.  Most importantly, Apple promises to deliver this feature “without compromise”. It will even know when to automatically switch from 5G to 4G, making it an even smarter smartphone (excuse the pun).

It’s the most macho of the smartphones

Apple has introduced Ceramic Shields made from nanoceramic crystals to protect this new range of iPhones. And what does this mean? Basically, it makes the phone glass scratch-resistant, more durable and tougher than ever before. The tech company has stated they’ve quadrupled their drop performance, which will reduce the amount of stress felt when accidentally dropping the phone and waiting for the moment of truth to see if there’s a crack – we’ve all been there at some point.

It’s also more water and splash resistant than previous models. Just think about all those hours that will be saved from having your phone sit in rice.

Fastest chip in a smartphone

Every iPhone 12 will utilise A14 Bionic chips. For all those people that have no idea what that really entails, it essentially guarantees you speed. Whatever you may be doing, it’s going to be quick. Need I say more?

Advanced photo and video services

If high-quality photo taking and video making are your forte, passion or aspiration, then the iPhone Pro range is definitely worth considering. You’ll be able to take things to next level with three cameras, Dolby Vision video, enhanced quality of images taken in night mode with the LIDAR sensor, and the introduction of ProRAW – an editing tool to make those pictures perfect.

It just clicks

Last but not least, each model in this new line will be MagSafe – magnetic and protective simultaneously. Whether it is to stick on pretty cases, PopSockets, cardholders or literally whatever we try to force onto the back of our phones, MagSafe will make these accessories super easy and effortless to add. Snap, and it’ll be on.

What is missing:

There is one thing you shouldn’t be looking for in your new iPhone box. Apple has chosen to no longer provide charging adapters claiming that it is more environmentally friendly for shipping purposes and to reduce carbon emissions. A USB-C to Lightning Cable will still be given. If you are hoping to obtain earphones or a charger, they can be purchased separately.

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro is now available to pre-order and will be released on October 23. The iPhone 12 mini and the iPhone 12 Pro Max will be available to pre-order from November 7and will be released on November 13.
