Virgil is done with 2020. Aren’t we all?
It’s a comforting thought, Louis Vuitton’s SS21 collection reminds us that 2020 will eventually come to a welcomed end. What better way than to gain a sneak peak at Louis Vuitton’s plans for the future.
A short film was released on the LMVH instagram, channeling fresh blue outfits, custom illustrations and a high-fashion worker’s vibe.
The clip is very ‘French’ and extremely tied to Virgil’s affinity for music. A new fragrance will arrive, and Abloh announced the collection would be drip fed across various global presentations.
LVMH is one example of how fashion houses are adapting to a ‘no show’ reality. Virgil directed another short film, one of the global presentations revolving around a group of cartoon characters in the ‘Adventures of Zoooom With Friends’.
The short film begins with a pair of Vuitton models loading a truck dressed in light-blue Vuitton overalls. The boxes are labelled ‘finest fineries’ — taken from Vuitton Maison de Famille in Asieres. The film then takes a vibrant and illustrative turn, with Virgil’s illustrative dragons and monsters dancing on screen.
Virgil and LVMH is one indication of a changing traditional landscape that is high fashion. While we wait for the rest of the campaign, hope is restored knowing we will head into 2021 with LMVH’s vision and abandonment of 2020.
